"Click Shetland" gives extra help with computers at the Library
Shetland Library has begun a series of twice-weekly drop-in sessions for people who need help using computers.
The sessions are part of the Library's “Click Shetland” project and are suitable for beginners who just want a taster of using computers, or for more experienced users who want help in a particular area.
During normal working hours, Library staff are always happy to help users with computer queries, but the time available can be limited if other customers are waiting. These drop-ins allow more time and attention for customers and it is hoped that the familiar setting of the Library will attract new users. The Library also plans to offer some one-to-one sessions and outreach events as part of the project.
The drop-in sessions, which are on the Library's mezzanine floor, take place on Monday evenings (6pm - 7.30pm) and Wednesday mornings (10am - 11.30am) until Christmas.
“Click Shetland” is funded by a grant of £6510 from the Scottish Government Public Library Improvement Fund. This is the fourth time Shetland Library has been awarded funding from this source. The fund is delivered through the Scottish Library and Information Council and is aimed at helping Libraries improve and develop services.
The money is being used to pay for laptop computers and some extra hours for Library staff to man the drop-ins.
