The Award recognised their work in supporting the Shetland business community with the Tidy Business Awards programme, an environmental management system operated by the Council on behalf of Keep Scotland Beautiful.

74 businesses from various sectors and from all over Shetland have now achieved national recognition at a bronze, silver, or gold level with this programme – by far the highest percentage of any local authority in Scotland.

Donna Hegarty, Programme Manager of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said “The award winners and finalists are all very deserving of this national recognition, and Keep Scotland Beautiful is very impressed with the range of excellent projects the finalists submitted.  The judges were impressed with the commitment that Shetland Islands Council and the local businesses had given to the Tidy Business Standards initiative, engaging in two way communication to improve waste collection and litter prevention.”

Councillor Jim Henry, Environmental spokesperson said “I am absolutely delighted that Shetland has received this recognition.  Both the council staff and the local business sector have worked very hard to achieve the award and it’s satisfying that this work has been recognised on a national level.”
