Faroese trade delegation flies in and sails out

The Faroese minister for trade and industry, Johan Dahl, will visit Shetland this week accompanied by a five-strong delegation.

Arriving by air on Tuesday evening and leaving for Aberdeen aboard the NorthLink ferry Hjaltland , the group will have talks with representatives of various projects and businesses in the isles, including Total’s Laggan/Tormore gas development, Viking Energy, Lerwick Port Authority and Tesco.

On arrival in Aberdeen, the delegation, which includes two representatives of the Faroese Earth and Energy Directorate, will travel to the All Energy Expoat the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, where they will meet Shetland Enterprise staff on the Shetland stand.

Alastair Cooper, the council’s economy and development chair, said the visit had major implications for the future economic relationship of the two island groups.

“There have always been close economic connections between us and our near neighbours in Faroe,” he said. “Future co-operation, particularly in the fields of telecoms and energy, offers opportunities which can provide great benefits to both our communities. This is a tremendous chance to explore our future working together.”

There will be a civic reception for the delegation on Tuesday evening (17 May) at the Scalloway Hotel.
