Press Release
Fireworks ‘Amnesty’
Do you have damaged fireworks at home that you don’t know what to do about? If so, Shetland Islands Council’s Trading Standards Service would like to hear from you.
David Marsh, Service Manager – Trading Standards, advises, “Once fireworks have become damaged they should not be lit, as it is very unlikely that they will behave as intended. We are now in a position to safely dispose of damaged fireworks. We need to know what is out there, so that we can set a date for disposal.”
If you have damaged fireworks, you should get in touch with Trading Standards at the Council’s Grantfield offices on 01595 744887, or email trading.standards@shetland.gov.uk, by Friday 4 June.
They will then arrange to have them collected and safely disposed of.
Councillor Iris Hawkins, Chair of the Council’s Infrastructure Committee, urges anyone who has damaged fireworks at home to take advantage of this opportunity to have them disposed of safely, “Please do not bring fireworks to the Council office – get in touch, and Trading Standards will arrange to have them collected from you.”
