Press Release
Four Seasons in Shetland
This themed exhibition of photographs has been produced by the Islesburgh Photographic Club, whose members range from novices to accomplished photographers. The exhibition depicts a variety of seasonal events, activities and scenery throughout the year in Shetland. It includes a range of landscape and coastal pictures from winter snow scenes and storms, to fields filled with wild flowers in the summer, and from the shoots of early Voar to the colourful Hairst crops. There are also interesting wildlife shots at various times throughout the year, and pictures of crofting, farming and other seasonal activities and events.
Membership of the club varies between 20 and 30, as people move away and new enthusiasts join. Recently, there has also been a renewed interest in darkroom processing by some of the new members who are looking to experiment with a combination of processes, new and old, to create a wide range of innovative forms of art.

The Islesburgh Photographic Club is a group of individuals who share a common interest in photography. New members are welcome, old or young, novice or accomplished.

John Hunter, Shetland Museum and Archives exhibitions officer: “As well as being social gatherings of like minded people, art clubs are great places to share ideas and techniques. The creative process can be greatly enhanced by seeing other practitioners at work, and there is an element of competition or friendly rivalry that can help spur folk on. Clubs can also organize excursions or events to provide new and exciting opportunities to artists. The great variety and ambition of the work in this exhibition shows that this club is in good health.”
The exhibition runs from 4th September – 10th October. For further information please contact John Hunter at the Shetland Museum and Archives on 01595 741559 or exhibitions@shetland-museum.org.uk.
