Free road safety talk for horse riders
The Council’s Road Safety Officer, Elaine Skinley, will be giving a talk on riding and road safety for all horse riders in the Town Hall Chamber next Thursday 6 October.
The talk begins at 19.00 and will be presented jointly with the Shetland Pony Club Centre. It will provide practical advice on horse and pony riding on Shetland’s roads and information on high visibility wear for horses. Mrs Skinley will also be giving out high visibility tabards to riders.
“Horse riders are always vulnerable out on the roads, particularly with the nights drawing in” said Mrs Skinley. “We would encourage anyone who takes their horse or pony on the roads to come along on Thursday to pick up some tips for keeping themselves and their animals safe.
“Everyone riding horses at this time of year should be fully kitted out with the correct reflective gear and make sure they put it on every time they go out. We have over 30 free hi-vis tabards to give away at the talk and lots of information on other ways to make sure you are seen and safe.”
