Decision to Close Scalloway Junior High School Secondary Department
The Scottish Government have informed the Schools Service today, that they are going to call in the decision taken by Shetland Islands Council on 8 December 2010, to close the secondary department of Scalloway Junior High School.
There is no timescale in the legislation, on the length of time taken for this part of the process.
The detail of the call in is provided in the letter attached.
Chair of Services Committee Councillor Angus said today ‘The Schools Service will consider the detail of the call in decision. Discussions will take place with the Scottish Government on this and how the Schools Service can best respond.’ He went on to say ‘The Anderson High School is perfectly capable of accommodating all of the Scalloway secondary pupils into the existing building which has capacity for 1200 pupils. Currently the roll is 759 pupils. There has been considerable capital investment to ensure pupils pastoral, as well as educational, needs are met in the Anderson High School.’
