Scalloway harbour dredging
Members of the Shetland Islands Council agreed at a private meeting last Wednesday (27 July) to negotiate with the contractor currently dredging Scalloway Harbour, to further deepen the channel up to a maximum of 9 metres.
Commenting on the decision, Council political leader Josie Simpson said “It’s come about that we have an opportunity to get the channel deepened. We’re going to speak with Articon, the company doing the dredging at the moment, to sort out the details, but the key thing here is that the extra work won’t cost us any more. It’s a really good opportunity to make the harbour more attractive for prospective business”.
