Each candidate has been required to write a manifesto outlining their views on issues that affect young people at a local, national and international level these will be distributed from Monday 28th February 2011 to schools, youth clubs and other related settings.

Spokesperson for Education, Children and Young People, Councillor Bill Manson said “Well done to all those who have put their names forward.  It is good to see enough candidates to have a real contest without so many that the vote is fragmented.  Let the hustings begin.”

NOTE TO NEWSDESKS:

Members of Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) are elected by young people in their local area or a national organisation in which they are involved.  As an MSYP you have been democratically elected by young people to represent them and ensure their voice is listened to by local and national decision-makers.  The three main ways in which MSYPs do this are:

  • Consulting with young people in your local area or organisation
  • Campaigning on issues which affect young people
  • Representing young people’s views to individuals and organisations who make decisions which affect the lives of young people
