Press Release

Shetland Times supplement

Shetland Islands Council placed a four page centre spread supplement in the Shetland Times on Friday 8 July.

The supplement includes messages from the political leader and committee chairs about:

  •  their hopes for the future of Shetland,
  • how they are going to tackle the business they’re responsible for, and
  • what you can expect from the council in the next few years.

It also includes an outline of the new council structure and a description of the Council’s financial condition.

You can read the supplement here.

Your responses to what the councillors have to say are welcome.  Telephone on 01595 693535 or email info@shetland.gov.uk to leave your comments.

The supplement cost £2,600 to produce.  That equates to around 12 pence per person in Shetland.  Based on the fact that Shetland Times circulation is 10,715 each week, the Council felt that it was a good use of resources to get across these very important messages.  The survey carried out earlier in the year with staff and the public suggested that the Council should communicate directly with the public more often.
