Press Release

Walls Pier contract wound up

The Walls Pier under construction.

Following a period of discussions, the Council and Airport Civil Engineering Ltd have agreed to wind up their contract to build the new Walls Pier. It was recently announced that the contractor was having difficulty in resourcing the project and a delay to the date of final delivery had been feared.

“We’ve had some useful talks with the contractor over recent weeks and have agreed with them that this is the best way forward”, explained Robert Sinclair, Executive Manager of Capital Programme Service. “The Council is now looking forward to getting the job finished. We're confident of getting another contractor on board in the near future,” he said.

Martin Anderson, Managing Director of Airport Civil Engineering said: “I’m glad that we’ve been able to resolve matters so quickly and to be able to do so by mutual agreement."

The Council will in due course be able to announce who will take over the project, the key priorities being to deliver the pier for the Walls and Shetland communities on budget and without delay.
