SIC Building Standards Service praised

Shetland Islands Council’s Building Standards Service has been praised by the Scottish Government following the submission of a ‘balanced scorecard’ for 2011-12. This is essentially the council’s Building Standards service plan.

Mark Rae, Head of the Scottish Government’s Building Standards Verification and Administration Team, wrote a letter of congratulations to Building Standards manager Alan Jarden, in which he said:

“The quality of the submissions has improved year on year and gives a good overview of what you do and how the service aligns with the wider council and its priorities.”

Mr Jarden said:

“The council’s Building Standards Service is committed to providing an excellent service to our customers and ensuring that the construction of new buildings and the alteration or conversion of existing property meets the building standards.”

Alastair Cooper, Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee, said the confirmation of the Building Standards Service’s quality was welcome.

“We can all have total confidence in the service and the application of its high standards to buildings and conversions throughout Shetland,” he said.
