Shetland Input/Output Household Survey
Shetland Islands Council commissioned an input / output study to help provide statistics on the current state of the local economy and useful data to inform and guide the Council’s actions and policies.
The Hutton Institute in Aberdeen and locally based A B Associates are undertaking the necessary survey work, data analysis and presentation of results.
The study updates similar ones undertaken in 2004 and 1994.
Data has been gathered from local businesses and households through face to face interviews and questionnaires.
The business survey took place over the summer with over 100 local companies participating.
Over 1200 households received a postal questionnaire and a further sample was interviewed face to face.
The household survey results will establish what people spend their money on and how much is spent locally as against outside Shetland.
It will also help inform the Council of the likely impacts of the budget cuts on the wider economy and local households.
All those who received a household questionnaire were given the option of entering a prize draw if they returned a completed questionnaire. A draw was held using all the tickets received and the lucky winner was Michael Leask who received a special Luxury Christmas Hamper of Shetland products.
Douglas Irvine of Council's Economic Development Unit said, “I would like to congratulate Michael on his win and thank everyone who has completed a questionnaire.
"I am looking forward to seeing the results and using the data to support and inform our future policy work.”
