Press Release
New Head Teacher in Mossbank and Olnafirth
A new Head Teacher will shortly arrive in Shetland, to be joint manager of Mossbank and Olnafirth Primary schools. Patricia Brown, currently working in Fife, has experience as a depute Head and has been acting Head Teacher in Edinburgh. She has also experience of working on an island, her first teaching post being on the island of Arran.
Mrs Brown considers that she is “fulfilling an ambition” to work in Shetland, having wanted to come and work here for a number of years.
The schools have been managed by Margaret Duncan and Madge Peters, until the post was filled. A representative from the Schools Service expressed gratitude to these members of staff for their hard work and commitment to their schools.
Cllr Bill Manson, Spokesperson for Children and Young People said ‘I am delighted that there is a satisfactory outcome to this recruitment, and look forward to Ms Brown settling in and taking forward the work in these two schools. Thanks too, to those who are looking after things so ably while the position is vacant’
The combined roll for Mossbank and Olnafirth Primary schools is likely to be sixty nine children next year. Mossbank Primary also offers a nursery and full daycare service.
