Change to Recycling Collection in Quoys
From Friday 16 December the kerbside recycling collection in Quoys will change from an afternoon to a morning collection. Please place your recycling bags in the appropriate recycling box ready for collection by 07.30. Any queries, please phone the Cleansing Service on 744800.
Festive Refuse and Recycling Collections Timetable
The Gremista Waste Management Facility and Recycling Centre will be closed Sunday 25th to Wednesday 28th December and Sunday 1st to Wednesday 4th January.
No Bulky Uplift in Lerwick
Please note that, as part of Shetland Islands Council’s budget savings for 2011-12, the Council WILL NOT be collecting items of bulky household waste from domestic properties in Lerwick this year.
If you have any bulky items, please take them to the Gremista Waste Management Facility and Recycling Centre in Lerwick, where they can be disposed of free of charge.
The Kerbside Recycling Calendar

Order Your Household Wheeled Bin Online

The Council has launched an opt-in Wheeled Bin waste collection service for householders in Community council areas Lerwick, Scalloway, Dunrossness, Gulberwick Quarff and Cunningsburgh, Burra and Tronda (inc. East Voe), Whiteness Weisdale and Tingwall and Bressay.
If you’d like to opt-in you can now order your green 240 litre wheeled bin for £26, which will be delivered within a fortnight. Bins can be ordered from the Infrastructure Services office at Grantfield in Lerwick, or you can order your bin online.
Please note: Not every location will be suitable for wheeled bins, areas that already have a communal refuse store will not have their waste collected if presented in wheeled bins and If you have a wheeled bin you are entirely responsible for presenting it in a safe manner on collection day, and for it’s security and upkeep.

The Tidy Business Standards Awards 2010/2011
On the 17th of February the Environment and Energy Service held the 2010/11 Tidy Business Standards Awards Ceremony in the Town Hall. Awards were presented to successful participating businesses by Councillor Jim Henry.
This year participation in the scheme has grown with 74 businesses achieving a Bronze, Silver or Gold award. We would like to thank all the participating businesses for their continued support and hard work in achieving awards, showing Shetland's business community is committed to environmental improvement.
