Where else to look / listen
If there is a likelihood of serious disruption caused by snow, BBC Radio Shetland will be on air. They are able to broadcast a bulletin at 06:54, 07:26 just before Radio Orkney, 07:57 just before the eight o'oclock news and then, if needed, later bulletins at 08:26 and just before nine. These will normally provide updates from the Head of Schools and Roads Inspector. The Shetland News website will also carry regular updates, as will The Shetland Times.
SIBC (96.2 FM) carries messages on morning decisions of closure over the breakfast period at approximately ten minute intervals, including within all news bulletins, starting from the time of the decision, (usually around 06:30), until just after 08:30. Messages of closures during the day are carried from the time of decision and then every three to four minutes at first and then at wider intervals and in all news bulletins for the required period. When a decision to close is taken the afternoon before, including a Sunday, this is carried within all news bulletins during the evening and through the night and the next morning's breakfast period.
