About Local Housing Allowance
Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is the new way of working out the maximum Housing Benefit that you could get.
Local Housing Allowance will apply to all new claims we receive on or after 7th April 2008 from tenants who rent accomodation from a private landlord.
It also affects people who are already getting Housing Benefit and who move into accommodation they rent from a private landlord on or after 7th April 2008.
The maximum amount of Housing Benefit you can receive will be based on the monthly LHA rates that are set by The Rent Service.
The details of the current LHA rates can be found in the Local Housing Allowance RatesThe Local Housing Allowance Rates Section.
Under the LHA rules, payments of Housing Benefit will be paid direct to the tenant either into a bank account or by cheque.
