PVG Scheme Checks
Action needed
Undertake PVG Scheme membership checks when appointing staff, volunteers or helpers as part of your checks that the individual is not unsuitable to work with children
The first question to decide is whether staff or volunteers in your group are carrying out 'regulated work' with children.
Disclosure Scotland have an online self-assessment tool available here and CRBS have a checklist available as a Word document here (251 Kb)

To access Disclosure information groups are required to have a number of policies, procedures and systems in place before they can access Disclosure information
- Sign up to Disclosure code of practice
- Must have a written policy on handling, holding and destroying Disclosure Information
- A child protection policy
- A policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders (that can be included in an equal opportunities policy)
In Shetland, many groups access PVG checks and information through Voluntary Action Shetland, which is registered with the Central Registered Body in Scotland (CRBS) as an Intermediary Body.
For more information on accessing checks, please see the webpages of CRBS here
