Disclosure Checks

Action needed

Undertake Disclosure checks when appointing staff, volunteers or helpers as part of your checks that the individual is not unsuitable to work with children

  • Under the Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003 groups must

Not knowingly appoint an individual who is fully listed as being unsuitable to work with children

The only way of knowing whether someone has been fully listed is to undertake a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure check

All checks for those working in 'child care' positions should be at an Enhanced level.

  • Disclosure checks provided for one group/ organisation are not suitable for use by another group.  Each group has to undertake their own Disclosure checks.
  • There are different types of Disclosure checks and Groups / Organisations need to decide which are the most suitable for their group
