Child Safe Shetland News Update (Feb 2008)

Voluntary and Community Groups Receive
Child Protection Training and Free Disclosure Checks
The Child Safe Shetland project provided initial training for local voluntary and community groups on the Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003 and how to use the Child Safe Shetland Information Pack, as well as Child Protection Awareness training for volunteers and helpers plus free disclosure checks.
A series of grants roadshows has been held throughout Shetland to provide further support for community groups in meeting child protection requirements. If you missed these, don't worry - further help is at hand. See under 'Local organisations and training providers'.
Training and Free Disclosure checks/wallet cards are still available for volunteers
Shetland Child Protection Committee has a number of people to deliver a 3-hour child protection course for volunteers called 'Keeping Children Safe' and a number of courses have already been run throughout Shetland. Your local community work office will be able to advise.
Arrangements have been made for Shetland Council of Social Service to undertake free disclosure checks for volunteers. For more information contact Anne Robertson at SCSS on 01595 743900.
Wallet cards giving basic information about what to do if you are concerned about a child are available from the CPC Administrator - contact 01595 744430 mornings if you would like for these for your volunteers.
