Child Protection
Action needed
- All groups should have a child protection policy and procedure
- It is best practice for all staff and volunteers to attend child protection training
Detailed information is contained in the Shetland Interagency Child Protection Procedures (2.87 MB PDF file) that are available on the Council's website. These procedures specify definitions of abuse and the procedures that will be followed by statutory sector organisations following receipt of referral or identifcation of a child protection concern.

From April 2008, the Education & Social Care Department of Shetland Islands Council will require groups applying for financial assistance to ensure that they have policies and procedures in place to help ensure the safety of children. A template document is available here (151 Kb PDF file)
