Shetland Community Portal

The Shetland Community Portal is designed to provide up to date information for community groups and voluntary organisations.  The community toolkit contains information and guidance on a wide range of topics and the Portal can also provide community groups and voluntary organisations an opportunity to develop their own Internet presence.  To find out more click here

 

Child Protection

It is a grant condition of all the department’s grant aid schemes that community groups and voluntary organisations comply with the Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003, where applicable.    To find out more about this click here

 

Charitable Status

Community groups and voluntary organisations do not have to be a registered charity to access funding from the department’s approved grant aid schemes.  However the schemes that are funded by the Shetland Charitable Trust do generally expect organisations to have charitable status.   Also some external funding bodies are the same and will only consider grant applications from organisations that are registered charities.  

The Office of the Scottish Charity Register (OSCR) is the official independent body that regulates charities in Scotland.  To find out more about OSCR and how to become a charity please click here

 

Statutory consents and technical advice

Some capital projects will require applying to the Council for planning permission and/or a building warrant prior to undertaking any building works.   To find out more information about this process please click here.
