BADMINTON Scotland
UKCC Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Badminton
(Assistant Coach)
Sat 18th & Sun 19th October 2008
with assessment on Sat 8th November

This is the first coaching qualification in the Badminton Scotland coaching scheme and is suitable for those who are new to coaching, but who have some knowledge of the game. Candidates should be at least 16 years of age on the first day of the course; have some experience of playing the game and be able to participate in a short rally.
The course will cover the basics of:
- Coaching skills
- Grips, serving and overhead strokes
- Forecourt strokes, movement on court, tactical coaching
- Fun games and group coaching
The assessment will take the form of candidates coaching an activity for 15 mins.
Assistant coaches should be committed to their own development and should be looking to gain experience whilst working with a coach who is already qualified at Level 2 or higher.
Badminton Scotland are now delivering their coach education programme in line with the new UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) and this is the first year that the new courses are running across Scotland. You can see a summary of the Badminton Scotland coaching scheme on their webpages here.

The outline timetable and venues for this 2 day course will be:
UKCC Level 1 Training weekend
Saturday 18th October, West Mainland Leisure Centre, Aith,
10am - 6pm
& Sunday 19th October, Clickimin Leisure Centre, Lerwick, 10am - 6pm
UKCC Level 1 Assessment
Saturday 8th November,
West Mainland Leisure Centre, Aith,
10am - 6pm
The cost of the UKCC Level 1 course will be £80 for volunteer coaches (inc 33% subsidy)
or £120 for paid coaches
Badminton Basics course
Sunday 9th November, Clickimin Leisure Centre, Lerwick, 10am - 5pm.
Badminton Scotland will deliver a day course of short 'modules' on specific topics, for those who are, for example, interested in helping out at Clubs. The package provides an introduction to basic skills, techniques and fun games and will complement the UKCC Level 1 course that concludes the previous day.
The Badminton Basics course will include the three modules ABC1, ABC2 and Fun Games for Beginners.

The cost of the six-hour Badminton Basics course will be £20 for volunteer coaches (inc 33% subsidy)
or £30 for paid coaches
