Big Lottery Fund—People’s Millions
Active Schools (part of SIC Sport & Leisure) has applied to the Big Lottery Fund’s “People’s Millions” for £45,000 of funding to buy a state of the art dance mat system. We have asked for 24 mats which can be run as one big system or as 2 separate 12-mat systems.
A film about the dance mat project will appear on the STV regional news on Monday 23rd November at 6pm. Another project will also be shown. The public are asked to phone in and vote for their favourite, and the one with the most votes receives the funding.

Why is Active Schools applying for this funding?
- The mats are extremely portable and can go all over the islands to all community groups, schools, etc.
- Dance is extremely popular but there are not enough places for people to take part in dancing to chart hits.
- There is a range of difficulty levels which means that everyone can have a go.
- Dance mats offer a fantastic way of keeping fit—no matter what age you are!
- They have a brilliant selection of tunes from current chart hits to 60s classics!
- You can take part competitively or just for fun!
What can you do? The important bit!!!
