Netball Scotland 60th Anniversary Tournament
Saturday 25th August 2007

Invitation for provisional entries

SLNA logoShetland Ladies Netball Association would like to invite initial expressions of interest from senior netball teams from across Scotland who may wish to take part in a special tournament held in Shetland to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Netball Scotland.

This would be the first time that a major netball tournament has been held in Shetland.  All visiting teams would be assured of a warm island welcome and a first class competition held in superb sports facilities at the Clickimin Leisure Centre and Anderson High School in Lerwick.

The competition format would be based on a full day’s competition on Saturday 25th August, involving up to five teams from the Scottish Mainland, plus one team from Orkney and two teams from Shetland.

Travel

Northlink ferryVisiting teams would be offered a weekend travel package to Shetland, from Aberdeen, travelling by Northlink ferry.   This ferry will travel to Shetland on the evening of Friday 24th August, arriving at 7.30am on Saturday morning.   The return ferry to Aberdeen will leave Shetland on the evening of Sunday 26th August, arriving at 7am on Monday morning. Visiting teams just need to make their own way from their home bases to/from Aberdeen ferry terminal with onward transport to Shetland and local transport on the island being provided.

More details on Northlink Ferrries can be found at www.northlinkferries.co.uk

AccommodationIslesburgh House Youth Hostel

Overnight accommodation on Saturday night will be in central Lerwick, with players accommodated in Islesburgh Youth Hostel, a Scottish Tourist Board graded 5-Star hostel.   Various options are available from twin-bedded to dormitory style rooms.

Costs

Shetland Ladies Netball Association is awaiting a decision from the Awards for All Lottery Fund on financial assistance to support this event.  If this funding is approved, then the expected cost of the package of travel, accommodation, event entry fees and Saturday night entertainment will be in the region of £45-£50 per person.   Please note that this travel and event package is conditional on this Awards for All funding being available.

Expressions of interest will be considered for entry, with the final decision being made by Netball Scotland in consultation with the local organising committee, by 14th June 2007.  We’d like to invite teams from across Scotland and this will be reflected in the final choice of participating teams.
