Ross County kicks off summer football season
Despite the misty weather on Saturday and Sunday, the summer football season kicked off with around 160 children between the ages of 4 and 16 turning out to enjoy the Ross County Easter Soccer School on the Clickimin north pitches.
Community Coaches with Ross County Football Club, Tommy Wilson and Debbi McCulloch, also led outdoor coaching sessions with the Shetland Under 12s squad and indoors on Saturday evening at the final session of the Bank of Scotland Midnight Football League.
Ms. McCulloch commented - "The kids have been fantastic and we have all had a great weekend of football skills and games. We look forward to returning to Shetland again for our Summer Soccer School on the weekend of 10th to 13th August."
Unfortunately the poor weather conditions at both Sumburgh and Scasta airports on Friday evening meant that Gavin Levey, Scottish Football Association (SFA) Community Coach at Aberdeen Football Club, couldn't make it to Shetland to lead an SFA Level 3 coaching course for local football coaches at the Gilbertson Park in Lerwick. New dates have been pencilled in for either late August or early September to attempt to run this course again.
The partnership with Ross County Football Club and the Scottish Football Association has been led by the Sport & Leisure Service of Shetland Islands Council.
