SHETLAND FOOTBALL FORUM
Graeme Sutherland, SFA North Regional Manager and Rod Houston, Development Manager at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall, will be in Shetland to host an open football discussion meeting on the evening of
Friday 2nd May 2008, at 6.30pm in the Lighthouse Suite, Lerwick Hotel
The meeting will discuss all aspects of the game in Shetland with a view to creating a Shetland Football Forum to draw up an overall action plan to develop football in Shetland.
Representatives from all relevant football groups are invited to attend, including seniors and juniors, male and female players, and referees. This is an open meeting and anyone with an interest in the development of football in Shetland - players, officials, office bearers, managers, coaches etc - is invited to attend.
This venue has been generously provided by Brudolff Hotels Group, sponsors of Shetland football.
The main discussion point for the meeting will be to consider some initial action points from research conducted during Graeme Sutherland’s visits to Shetland during 2007. This includes:
- club development
- coach education
- player pathways
- schools programmes
Similar forums have already been established in Orkney and the Western Isles and have been effective in focussing the efforts of all the local groups involved. In Orkney for example, the forum has evolved to become the umbrella body for football in Orkney and is the vehicle for progressing the development of an astroturf football pitch in Kirkwall.
If you have any queries before the meeting, please contact Graeme Sutherland on 01343 540101.
