Population and Migration Study

Findings from the study into population change and it's impact on Shetland are now compete.  This study was commissioned by the Shetland Islands Council, in partnership with HIE Shetland, NHS Shetland, Communities Scotland and Shetland Community Economic Development Trust.

This study was designed to establish how the population in Shetland, and in different areas of Shetland, is changing; to make projections to 2030 and to develop a model for predicting population change in the Islands.

Research was also done into living in the Shetland Islands and why people move into, within, or away from, the Islands.

The next stage for taking forward the study is our Community Planning Partnership Summit in October. Partners will spend a day discussing various issues surrounding population in Shetland and how we can plan our services together as partners to provide for a sustainable future for the Shetland population.
