What is Community Safety?
Community Safety is about "creating safer places for people to live, work and visit, without fear or risk of harm" (Safe & Sound, Accounts Commission 2000). Community Safety aims to reduce crime, the fear of crime, victimisation and anti-social behaviour, in order to protect and enhance the quality of life for those who live, work and visit Shetland.
In March 2003, the Shetland Community Safety Partnership was formally established. The Partnership is a multi-agency partnership that brings together representatives from a range of agencies who, by working together, aim to make Shetland a place where people can live, work and visit without fear for their own or others safety. The Shetland Community Safety Partnership operates at a strategic level, addressing the key community safety concerns that face Shetland. These challenges need to be tackled through agencies and communities working together to plan services and improve the quality of life for the whole community.
We are currently in the process of developing our Strategic Assessment for 2011/12. This document will identify the key priorities for the Partnership for the coming year.
