Crime & The Fear Of Crime
Community Safety is not only about being safe, but feeling safe. Perceptions of crime and disorder are a cause for concern in most communities, and directly impact on our quality of life as individuals. However, in Shetland, the fear of crime is higher than the probability of being a victim of such a crime. According to the Scottish Executive's "Recorded Crime In Scotland 2003" report, Shetland has the second lowest number of recorded crimes, making us one of the safest communities in the United Kingdom.
