Welcome to Community Work
There are five Community Work Officers supporting communities across Shetland. We work with communities to help maintain and improve the quality of life by provide support across a wide range of aspects of community life, such as education, the economy and employability, getting involved in local planning and democracy, health, and healthy communities in its widest sense. Community Work supports people to become confident individuals, effective contributors, responsible citizens, and successful learners. We support communities to be active and have more influence, by making sure they get access to the correct resources, including grants, and information, helping to plan, manage and assess their work effectively and to include as wide a range of people in their work as possible.
We have the most active community, per 10,000 head of population, in Scotland. Our job is to support Shetland’s unique way of life, in which volunteering and community involvement plays such an integral part.
We also operate a small fleet of self drive community minibuses
