Bursary Grant Information
A Bursary is a discretionary grant made by a college to help maintain a person in education beyond the statutory school leaving age of 16 years.
The criteria for Bursary Support is:
- Programme of study that leads to a recognised qualification up to National Certificate Level
- Generally bursaries are made available to support full-time attendance of more than 21 hours per week
- Only if a programme of study is unavailable in Shetland or where there are no places left on the course in Shetland, will bursary support be provided to attend college on the Scottish Mainland
- You satisfy the residency requirements. In most cases, if you have been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom for the three years prior to the start of your course, and are resident in Shetland at least three months prior to the start of your course, you are likely to be eligible.

Students under the age of 18 may be entitled to an EMA as part of the bursary. This award is based on the gross household income. | Income Assessed |
| Full Bursary Application | Students over the age of 18 may be entitled to a full bursary award which includes maintenance, fees, travel and materials | Income Assessed |
