Bursaries and EMA Grant Information
The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) became available nationally from August 2004 to eligible young people staying on in school beyond their statutory leaving age or going on to Further Education. Your date of birth should fall into one of the following categories:

EMA is an allowance of up to £30 per week, depending on household income. Household income is assessed in the same way as for Inland Revenue Working Tax Credits. Students estranged from parents or in care of the authority will be paid the maximum amount. The weekly allowances payable are:

If you received an EMA prior to 2009/10 then income must fall into one of the following categories:

"Scottish Ministers reserve the right to review the EMA programme at any time. They plan to review the programme in December 2010. Any award made will only be guaranteed up to the end of December 2010."
In order to receive an EMA you must still be in full time Education either at school or undertaking a course at college up to and including National Certificate level.
