Quality Assurance Policy
“An education authority shall endeavour to secure improvement in the quality of school education which is provided in the schools managed by them; and they shall exercise their functions in relation to such provision with a view to raising standards of education.” Standards in Scotland’s Schools etc. Act 2000
To comply with the legislation, the Schools Service has a comprehensive Quality Assurance Policy folder, which contains our policy and supporting guidance on each aspect of Quality Assurance initiated procedures, which are designed to ensure continuous improvement in the standard of education provided in Shetland schools. A copy of this document is available in each school or from Hayfield House.
Central to Quality Assurance is the School Development Plan, which while addressing the needs of the school also takes account of national priorities, and the Schools Service Quality Improvement Plan. The above Act of the Scottish Parliament places a legal duty on schools to prepare a School Development Plan on which consultation with Parent Council, parents, staff and pupils takes place. Schools are also required to report on progress towards implementation of the plan.
This is achieved through a school’s Standards and Quality report. Standards and Quality reports should be submitted to the Schools Service by 30 September each year. School Development Plans must be submitted to Schools Services by 15th June each year.
