Visual Impairment - Additional Support Needs (ASN)
What do we do?
- Assess Functional Vision to identify need
- Provide support and advice for parents, carers, pre-school, school staff, further education and other relevant professionals regarding practical and educational needs
- Provide guidance on preparation of materials in appropriate format and alternative media and support in the use of technology
- Provide advice for adapting the environment and teaching techniques and work of support staff.
- Provide advice on the development of specialised programmes and IEP (braille, mobility, touch typing, self-help, communication, social and daily living skills.
- Provide advice on sensory/experiential curriculum for those with a Visual Impairment and additional difficulties.
- Monitor progress, including contribution at relevant reviews.
- Promote opportunities for social development and independence.
- Assistance in the preparation of transition arrangements
- Assist special arrangements for exams where appropriate
- Provide a consultative service and staff development
