Youth Music Initiative

The Youth Music Initiative is funded through the Scottish Arts Council by the Scottish Executive.

We are now in Year 5 of this initiative and have submitted a bid for £83,628 of funding to support music activities for school students in Shetland. One of the main aims is to ensure that all P6 children have some instrumental tuition but the funding can also support other activities.

Some of the projects planned for this year are:

• Dialect Singing classes
• A Dialect Nursery Rhyme resource for Early Years
• Community musicians working in Schools
• Music Technology Support for Primary Schools
• Music Festival Workshops
• Support for visiting musicians to work in schools
• Additional Music Instructor time for children with ASN
• Support for Drumjamm
