Food Complaints

There is something in my food! What should I do?

Keep the offending item, the rest of the food and any packaging in a bag in your fridge. If you still have the receipt please keep this also. Then contact Environmental Health on 01595 744800 or by email. We will then arrange for the collection of the item and will ask you some questions to try to determine the likely cause of the contamination. You may also bring the item along the office but please phone first to make sure someone will be available to meet you.

I have been ill after eating out! What should I do?

Remember that the reason for being ill may have nothing to do with the food you ate. Other reasons for being ill vary from a rotavirus 'bug going about' to excess consumption of alcohol the night before.

If your vomiting and/or diahorrea is severe or lasts more than 24 hours see your GP who may advise sending a stool sample for analysis. If this sample is positive for a likely food poisoning organism then Environmental Health will be contacted by the NHS and will then contact you. See the food poisoning page for futher details. Contact your GP right away if any young child or baby has these symptoms.

If you are a food handler and have food poisoning symptoms you must inform your line manager. It may be neccessary to exclude you from work in certain circumstances.
