Food Events & Barbecues
If you are organising a fund raising event or having your own barbecue, you will have to ensure that the food you cook is safe.
Bugs such as E. Coli 0157, Salmonella and Campylobacter can cause serious illness but these can be avoided.
Please see the cooking barbecued food properly. (external link)
The most important issue is to keep raw meat away from ready-to-eat food (external link)
Another very important issue is to keep hands clean and prevent cross contamination of bugs from raw meat onto ready-to-eat foods.
You can hire a wash hand basin:
Environmental Health has three portable ‘Cascade’ wash hand basins available for hire. If you have an event e.g. barbeque, ice cream stall, teas or similar, where you are handling and serving open food, one of these may be just what you need. The wash hand basin requires a power supply and with the handy container inside for fresh water, you can ensure clean, safe hands throughout your event or barbecue.
Community groups and charities pay a £10 hire charge and businesses pay a daily rate.
