Housing
We offer confidential housing advice and if you would like to discuss your housing options you can make an appointment to see a Housing Officer. Home or office appointments are available.
SIC together with Hjaltland Housing Association offer a joint housing register with one application form. This creates a simpler, fairer and less time consuming way for people to apply for housing in Shetland. For existing tenants looking to move house, it helps people move between SIC and Hjaltland properties. Please contact us if you wish to apply. We can help you fill in an application form on request.
If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, you should contact us at our Fort Road office as soon as possible for advice. Depending on your circumstances, you may be entitled to temporary accommodation (available throughout Shetland) and support.
HomeSwapper is a scheme for mutual exchanges between public sector tenants across the UK and has been recently introduced in Shetland. SIC and Hjaltland Housing Association are both participating landlords. Tenants and applicants can access this service from the public access computer at Housing Service office at Fort Road or by going online at www.homeswapper.co.uk
If you are a SIC tenant living in a larger house than you need, and wish to move to a smaller house, you may be eligible for a payment of £700 to help with the cost of moving. Please contact us if you wish to apply.
Information on the various housing options available in Shetland can be found online in the Housing Options Guide - www.shetland.gov.uk/housingoptionsguide/
