Advice and Information Strategy
The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 placed new duties on local authorities in relation to the provision of housing advice and information. Relevant guidance from Communities Scotland suggested aHousing Advice and Information Strategy as the best way of complying with these duties.
Shetland Islands Council's Housing Advice and Information Strategy has been developed in partnership and consultation with local agencies and has included a review of the housing advice and information currently provided. This strategy will enable the council to meet its legal duty to ensure that quality housing advice and information is freely available to all residents in Shetland.
The quality standard principles that the strategy aims to work towards are:
We will listen to our clients and respect the principles of confidentiality.
We will provide information that is tailored to an individual’s needs, taking into account the most convenient routes to access services.
We will promote a sense of respect and empowerment and our services will be impartial and non judgemental.
