Building Strong Safe and Attractive Communities
The Scottish Executive issued a Consultation Document in 2003 setting out proposals to introduce community warden schemes in Scotland, and other initiatives to tackle anti-social behaviour. This is in response to the continued problems some Scottish communities face living in a poor quality environment battling against crime, vandalism and anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhoods. The Scottish Executive has set aside £30 million for 2003 to tackle these problems. This means £80,000 for community wardens and £35,000 for initiatives to tackle anti-social behaviour in Shetland.
Built on a partnership basis, these initiatives have various stakeholders, with membership dependent on what type of schemes are established. Those involved are SIC Housing, Community Planning and Community Safety, Northern Constabulary, Housing Associations and Voluntary, Community and Tenants' Organisations. As well as providing community wardens and initiatives for tackling anti-social behaviour, the partnership also provides mediation services and support for victims, witnesses and complainants. Through joint working this partnership hopes to contribute to the reduction of crime, youth crime, anti-social behaviour and improve the quality of the environment. Spin off contributions hope to include improvements in housing stock management and increased local employment opportunities.
Below are Neighbourhood Support Worker progress leaflets. It is hoped these will be produced every 6 months.
