Housing Adaptations

  • The Council ensures that support is available to help older or disabled people to continue living comfortably and independently in their own homes. Funding is available to adapt Council houses to meet the care needs of a Council tenant. Typical adaptations carried out include putting in showers, extra heating, hand rails and ramped access.
  • Requests for adaptations should be put in writing to SIC Housing. From this, needs are usually then assessed jointly by officers from SIC Education and Social Care and Housing. An occupational therapist’s assessment and a community care assessment may be required. This will be undertaken by SIC Education and Social Care. Click here for more detailed information on Housing Adaptations and Repairs through Education and Social Care.
