Housing Options Introduction
The Guide to Housing Options in Shetland has been produced in partnership with Shetland Islands Council, Shetland Tenants' Forum, Hjaltland Housing Association and Shetland Citizens Advice Bureau, and has been funded by HomePoint, Communities Scotland. The guide has been extensively updated from the original version that was produced in 1998.
The guide provides a wide range of housing information and options that are available in Shetland to help people in housing need make informed choices about their particular housing problem or issue. The guide is, however, also designed for those agencies in Shetland who provide housing information and advice. It aims to give them an accessible, reliable reference source that they can draw upon to give their customers high quality advice.
Communities Scotland through Homepoint is promoting the importance of good quality housing advice and information. They are assisting Local Authorities throughout Scotland to develop, implement and promote Housing Options Guides. This has enabled the guide to be updated since it was first produced. Shetland Islands Council also received funding from the Scottish Executive from 2004-2006 towards the development of a Common Housing Register for Shetland. This has enabled us to redevelop the Housing Options Guide on the web and include information and website links to other agencies that provide housing and housing related advice in Shetland.
