News Release - Monday 4 July 2005
MUSIC FESTIVAL FOR ISLAND GAMES
'At The Edge' Music Festival 13 - 15 July, Fort Charlotte, Lerwick, Shetland.
Preparations are well underway for the 'At the Edge' Music Festival, one of the biggest outdoor music events ever to be held in Shetland. From Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 July headline acts including Radio 1's Dave Pearce, Irish power rockers Therapy? and chart-toppers The Bluetones will perform alongside some of the best local rock bands.
Fort Charlotte, the historic 18th century monument built to repel the invading French and Spanish during the American War of Independence, in the centre of Lerwick will provide a fabulous backdrop for the musical entertainment that will coincide with the NatWest Island Games XI, a biennial international multi-sport event that will see 2,500 athletes, team managers and officials, from 24 island communities throughout the world competing in 15 sports in a unique week long festival of sport - 9 to 15 July 2005.
Organiser Neil Grant said 'The event is being promoted to celebrate the NatWest Island Games and facilitate the need for evening entertainment for the visitors and locals alike. What better way to promote Shetland as a vibrant place than to provide a music festival of this scale and calibre'.
The Island's population is set to swell with competitors, tourists and Island Games officials and in true Shetland style, the festival has been organised to ensure that all visitors enjoy themselves as much as possible while visiting the islands.
the 'At the Edge' Music Festival is being organised by Flavour of Shetland, The North Star music venue and Shetland Arts Trust. The best sound and lighting equipment is being imported to the islands to ensure the partygoers get the full 'festival' experience.
