Day 5 Natwest Island Games XI - Shetland 2005 Results Overview and Scottish Performances - as at 21:15 - 13/07/05
Badminton
In the quarter finals of the men's doubles, Shetland's Colin Grant and Gordon Keith won their match against Faroe Islands 2-0 and go on to the semi finals.
Meanwhile in the women's doubles Shetland's Suzanne Henderson and Shona Keith lost their quarter final match against Greenland's Else Hoegh Moeller and Anja Skov 0-2.
Orkney's Elaine Gray and Moira Nicolson also lost their quarter final against Guernsey's Lisa Haywood and Elena Johnson 0-2
Cycling
In the women's Individual Road Race, Claire Moore won gold for Isle of Man in a time of 02:26:02. Cayley Ennett took silver for Isle of Man in
02:26:03 and Deanna McMullen of Bermuda took bronze in 2:26:03.
In the women's Team Road Race, Isle of Man won gold, Bermuda took silver and Jersey took bronze.
Football
Shetland's men's team went head to head with Saaremaa today and drew 0-0.
Meanwhile Western Islands also drew 0-0 with Ynys Mon.
Golf
After the second day of the men's individual competition Robert Eggo of Guernsey leads with a total of 143. Kevin Moore of Isle of Man lies in 2nd on 144 and Guernsey's Daniel Bisson finishes the day in 3rd on 146. Western Islands Norman MacDonald finishes the day in 5th. Shetland's Michael Boxwell, Ian Graeme Sanderson, Alan Harcus and Stuart Fox finished the day 10th, 21st, 26th and 31st.
In the women's individual competition, Laura Robinson and Ebonie Burgess of Bermuda finish the second round in 1st and 2nd place on 151 and 154 respectively. Shetland's Irene Tait finishes the day in 3rd on 155.
Shetland's Heather Hogg and Angelina Sandison finished in 5th and 7th.
Meanwhile in the team events, Isle of Man lead in the men's competition with Guernsey in 2nd and Isle of Wight in 3rd.
In the women's team competition Bermuda finish the second round in 1st with Shetland in 2nd and Isle of Wight in 3rd . Orkney's team finish the day in 6th.
Gymnastics
In the women's competition, it was a fantastic day for Bermuda in the final of the women's Individual Beam with Kaisey Griffith taking gold, Kristin Heyliger taking silver and Kalena Astwood taking the bronze for Bermuda.
Team mate, Caitlyn Mello also finished in 4th position.
Bermuda continued their run of medal winning performances in the Individual Asymmetric Bars with Kaisey Griffith taking her second gold, Caitlyn Mello taking the silver and Kristen Heyliger taking the bronze.
Caitlyn Mello then went on to win gold for Bermuda in the Individual Floor with fellow team mate Kalena Astwood taking the silver and Emma Mingins of Isle of Man taking the bronze.
Kaisey Griffith of Bermuda took gold in the final of the Individual Vault after coming joint 1st with Isle of Man's Emma Mingins and Kalena Astwood of Bermuda taking the bronze.
In the Overall Individual competition, Kaisey Griffith took gold for Bermuda with a total of 32.2. Team mates Caitlyn Mello and Kristen Heylinger took silver and bronze with final totals of 31.6 and 30.675 respectively.
After an outstanding performance by the women's team, Bermuda took 13 medals in total, 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.
In the men's competition Helgi Winther Olsen of Faroe Islands and Joseph Smith of Isle of Man took gold in the Individual Floor after finishing with scores of 8.6. Alex Hedges took the bronze for Isle of Man with a final score of 8.1.
Meanwhile in the final of the Individual High Bar, Isle of Man's Alex Hedges took the gold and Hognis Runason Oster of Faroe Islands took silver.
Helgi Winther Olsen took gold in the Individual Parallel Bars for Faroe Islands with Mukunda Measuria taking the silver.
Jersey's Ben Frith won gold in the final of the Individual Pommel with a score of 8.2 with Graham Furner and Alex Hedges taking the silver after finishing with a final score of 7.8 for Isle of Man.
In the final of the Individual Rings, Isle of Man's Alex Hedges took gold and team mate Graham Furner took silver.
Alex Hedges of Isle of Man took gold in the final of the Individual Vault with team mate Joseph Smith taking silver and Hogni Runason Oster of Faroe Islands taking bronze.
In the Overall Individual competition, the team from the Isle of Man were celebrating after taking gold, silver and bronze. Alex Hedges took gold, finishing with a score of 48.0, Mukunda Measuria took the silver with a final score of 42.05 and Graham Furner took the bronze with a final total of 40.5.
Indoor Bowls
After the second day of the men's pairs competition, Shetland's Ally Bain and Alexander Elphinstone lie 1st in their group with 4 points.
In the same group Western Island's John Macleod and Duncan Macmillan lie in 4th with Orkney's John Rendell and Jim Seatter finishing the second day in 5th position.
In the women's pairs Shetland's June Bain and Margaret Burnett finished 1st in their group with 4 points.
Orkney's May Anderton and Marjory Nicol lie 3rd in their group behind Guernsey.
Sailboarding
After the second day of the Individual Event, James Briggs of Guernsey finished 1st, with Aland's Sara Beckman and Peter Aalto finishing 2nd and 3rd. Shetland's Allan Henderson lies in 6th place with team mates Graham Nicol, Gary Tulloch and John Kay in 8th, 12th and 13th respectively.
The competition concludes tomorrow.
Sailing
After the second day of the Laser Radial Rig, Shetland's Roger Tait and Graham Tait finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively behind Jersey's David Carter who finished 1st and Sara Lane Pantovic of Bermuda who finished 2nd.
Orkney's Andrew Leslie and Neil Brown finished 16th and 18th.
The competition concludes tomorrow.
Shooting
In the final of the Individual Air Pistol event, Shetland were celebrating as Dave Lewis took gold with a final total of 666.4 in the men's event, followed by team mate Kevin Gray who took silver with a final total of 650.2. Pontus Nordgren of Gotland took the bronze with a final total of 647.7.
In the women's event, Shetland's Dianne Garrick took silver with a final score of 432.4 behind Nickolina Andersson of Gotland who took gold after finishing on 448. Guernsey's Nikki Trebert took the bronze with a final total of 432.1. Shetland's Louise Robertson finished in 8th position with a final score of 399.7.
After the first day of the ISSF Skeet Individual, John Magnus Laurenson of Shetland finished 1st on the leader board with a total score after three rounds of 63. Bengt Olof Lindgren of Aland and Marius Joensen of Faroe Islands lie in 2nd with a total of 62.
Shetland's Karl Scott finishes the first day of competition in 9th position.
Squash
In the final of the women's singles Jersey's Ronnie Jubb took gold after beating Alison Strobridge of Guernsey 3-0. Karen Dunk of Guernsey and Isabell Klose of Isle of Man took bronze.
Meanwhile in the men's singles competition Chris Simpson of Guernsey took gold after beating Jersey's Michael Hopkins 3-0. James Stout and Nicholas Kyme took the bronze.
Swimming
In the final of the men's 50m butterfly Simon Le Couillard took gold in a time of 25.49, a new Games record. Ian Powell of Guernsey took silver in
25.73 and Jersey's Alexis Militis took bronze in 26.01.
Thomas Hollingsworth took gold in the final of the 100m individual medley in 58.68, Ben Lowndes of Guernsey took the silver in 1:00.02 and Damien Bouchere of Jersey took bronze in 1:00.11.
In the 100m freestyle final Alex Militis of took Jersey took the gold swimming 50.64. Guernsey's Jeremy Osborne took the silver in 53.08 and Ben Lowndes of Guernsey took the bronze in 53.34.
Meanwhile in the 200m backstroke final Ian Powell of Guernsey took the gold in a time of 2:01.93 with Thomas Hollingsworth of Guernsey taking the silver in 2:03.70 and Daniel Halksworth of Jersey taking the bronze in 2:07.61.
In the women's competition Gail Strobridge of Guernsey took gold in the 50m freestyle in a time of 27.37. Claire Wilson of Ynys Mon took the silver in
28.07 and Faroe Islands' Shaila Millum Garoarnar took bronze in 28.32.
Gail Strobridge of Guernsey took gold in the 100m breaststroke final in 1:15.95, beating Sarah Jane Smith of Jersey in 1:16.67 who took silver and Erica Granesater of Aland who took bronze in 1:17.97.
Ida Sandin of Gotland won the 200m backstroke final taking gold in 2:18.49, with Olivia Rawlinson of Isle of Man taking the silver in 2:19.12 and Rosie Barrett of Jersey taking the bronze in 2:23.86.
In the final of the 400m freestyle Heather Roffey of Cayman Islands swam
4:23.03 to win the gold, Olivia Rawlinson of Isle of Man took silver in
4:31.48 and Kaitlyn Elphinstone took bronze for Cayman Islands in 4:34.77.
After the fourth day of competition the medal table stands as follows:
