Period of Silence

This morning at the Athletics Stadium, silence was observed for the victims of the London bombs.

SWIMMING

In the pool, Guernsey's Thomas Hollingsworth broke the games record for the men's 100 metres freestyle in a time of one minute one second point nine.

In the women's 400 metres freestyle Heather Roffey of the Cayman Islands continued on the medal trail; four minutes thirty three point four three clinched the gold.

 

INTERVIEW HEATHER ROFFEY

Ian Powell of Guernsey took the Men's 200m backstroke gold.

Gail Strobridge,also of Guernsey, won the women's 100m breaststroke.

In the mens 100 metres freestyle Alexis Militis won gold for Jersey.

In the women's 50 metre freestyle, gold went to Guernsey, and to Gail Strobridge. Yns Mons Claire Wilson took silver.

Simon Le Coullard broke the games record for the men's 50 metres butterfly in a time of twenty six seconds and eighteen.

Ida Sandin of Gotland picked up another gold medal, this time, it was for the women's 200metre backstroke.

And in the relays, Jersey won the men's 4 x 100 metres medlay relay whilst their neighbours Guernsey took gold in the women's 4 x 100m freestyle.

 

CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING

In the shooting,Peter Kelly won the Automatic Ball Trap for the Isle of Man.

 

MEN'S GOLF

In the men's golf Robert Eggo of Guernsey leads the pack after two rounds but the Isle of Man lead the team event.

ARCHERY

In the archery, Jogvan Niclasen won gold for the Faroes yesterday in the men's 720 compound.Jane Moore of the Isle of Man won the women's event.

In the 720 Recurve event, Absalon Hanse of the Faroe Isles won gold in the men's , Jennifer Ham of the Isle of Wight won the women's event.

AIR PISTOL

Gold went to Dave Lewis of the Shetland Isles in the men's Air Pistol individual event.
Nickolina Andersson won the women's Air Pistol for Gotland.

 

WOMEN'S CYCLING

In the women's individual and team road races, two golds went to the Isle of Man . Claire Moore was the women's individual winner.

MEN'S CYCLING

In the men's competition Geri Mewett of Bermuda won the men's individual and the Isle of Man the team competition.

 

 

HANDS ACROSS THE SEA CEREMONY

The children of Shetland were finally able to show their routine, postponed from the opening ceremony due to bad weather.
They performed the "Hands across the Sea" ceremony in front of an enthusiastic audience.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The women’s volleyball was a dramatic win for the Faroes, beating Saaremaa 15-3 in the final set
