Museum

The Shetland Museums Service operates three museums. The main museum at the Hillhead in Lerwick covers all aspects of Shetland's history from archaeology to the modern day oil industry. The museum also has regular exhibitions of local contemporary art. The museums collection of over 60,000 photographs can also be viewed on-line at special terminals. The Crofthouse Museum is situated in Dunrossness and represents the sights and smells of a typical thatched cottage from around 1890. The Böd of Gremista situated on the outskirts of Lerwick is a typical 18th century fishing booth.
