Council Tax
What is council tax?
Council tax is a tax that every household has to pay unless it is exempt (www.shetland.gov.uk/counciltax). The amount you have to pay depends on where your property is and what kind of property it is (www.shetland.gov.uk/counciltax). We will send you a bill in March or April.
Council tax helps to pay for the public services that we provide to everyone in Shetland. These services include:
- Education
- Social work
- Sport and leisure facilities
- Libraries
- Street cleaning and rubbish collection
- Roads and transport
