Press Release - Anderson High seeks memories for 150th birthday
This year is the 150th anniversaryof the opening of the Anderson Educational Institute. To mark this special occasion, a number of celebration events are taking place over two weeks from the end of September.
The celebrations start with a Gala Concert in Mareel on Saturday 29th September, featuring several accomplished local musicians and groups, many of whom are former pupils,as well as current talented pupils. Tickets are available to the public from the Shetland Box Office and from Mareel.
The following weekend, the school will open its doors to the public. Everyone will be able to tour the building, taking in the original Institute which is now the English department, and the more recent extensions. There will be displays of key events over the life of the school, class and hostel photos, memories of former pupils and teachers, and exhibits of current pupils' work. Alsoavailablewill be a special anniversary edition of the school's newsletter. Teas and homebakes will be served throughout the weekend and a car boot sale will be held on the Sunday afternoon.
During thefortnight, pupils will also experience a flavour of education over the last century-and-a-half in some departments in the school.
