Double dialect book launch at the Library
There may be a surprise or two for children at Shetland Library on Saturday 5th November, where well known local author, poet and translator Christine De Luca will be hosting a book launch and story sessions.
It is the local launch of two popular titles translated by Christine, who explains: “Da Trow is a transformation into Shetland dialect of Julia Donaldson’s wonderful story The Troll; and Da Gruffalo’s Bairn is (you can probably guess), The Gruffalo’s Child. They are particularly suitable for 3 – 9 year olds, and all accompanying adults who enjoy a gluff or two! They are beautifully produced books, published by Black & White, and follow on from Laureen Johnson’s successful translation of The Gruffalo. There promises to be goats, a trow, a gruffalo or two and … shiver mi timbers … even pirates! Come prepared!”
Karen Fraser from Shetland Library added “We had a huge crowd for the Shetland Gruffalo launch last year and we expect this to be just as popular. It is good to see such enthusiasm among young families for these dialect stories.”
The Shetland Times Shop will be there with books for signing from 10.00 am till 12.30, and Christine will do readings at 10.15, 11.00 and 11.45am. The launch takes place in the Old Library building in Lerwick and everyone is welcome to pop along throughout the morning.
