Press Release
Food Hygiene Fine
The Proprietor of a Shetland takeaway, pled guilty, today, of failing to comply with a Food Hygiene Improvement Notice, which required that he train his staff. He was fined £1400.
Officers from the Council’s Environmental Health department had provided advice and support to the business to try to ensure they were complying with the law. When this failed, a statutory notice was served in September 2009. Officers revisited the premises on several occasions after the notice was served and established that staff handling high-risk food were still untrained so further enforcement action was necessary.
Maggie Dunne, Service Manager Environmental Health said, "Through the inspection programme the Council is committed to ensuring that food businesses are complying with food safety legislation to protect the health of their customers. My Officers provide businesses with the guidance and advice they need to achieve and maintain the relevant standards. However, in the interests of public health, prosecution is an option where businesses continually disregard the law".
